As you know, I have this tendency to be a little paranoid about everything. I am two years away from graduation and my anxiety about being jobless has reached the point where I spend endless hours on UofT's Career Centre website, sifting through HUNDREDS of job postings to find some that match my future credentials. I do this so that I can convince myself that a "liberal arts degree" is not completely useless, and that when I graduate there will be lots of options open to me.
As some of you know I want to be in publishing, I think, when I grow up. So in order to increase my marketability I am taking a copyediting course at Ryerson University. Ryerson is so full of Desis it's quite scary, but this also means that there is a nice smattering of "ethnic" (I mean Halal) restaurants around the place - my favourite so far being New Bilan which serves "Somalian food with a Bangladeshi twist!". They are located at Dundas and Jarvis, right next to Ho-Lee-Chow. Don't let the decorations fool you--the food is friggin awesome. So anyway, it has been an interesting two weeks and I've learnt a lot but also feel a little daunted because most of the people in the class are already working in the industry, and I feel like a bit of a loser among them. Did you know that there is such a thing called Canadian English, and that it is something completely different to American and/or British English? And also that you make the least money working in Trade Publishing which is like every person-in-publishing's dream job? Just goes to show you're not in English for the money! Anyhow, I'm really really REALLY excited to be doing this and thought I'd share. Wish me luck :D

Anna - yes it is! It's the only place I've had Somalian food at, and I love it. They don't have cushions, but tables complete with gaudy crocheted table cloths covered with plastic (which I think is "authentic" in another sense) hehe! But yeah like I said: decorations scary, food excellent.
Sim - thanks :D
